Patrick DeJean, the Marrero justice of the peace accused of pocketing public money, over-garnishing debtors' wages and keeping the excess, also embezzled $70,000 from his mother-in-law's estate, federal prosecutors say. They filed notice last week that they plan to introduce evidence of the theft -- but not charge DeJean with it -- when he goes to trial in U.S. District Court in New Orleans.
